Which B series Block is this?
I have a block that I was told is a JDM GSR and also told its a JDM b18c5 (ITR)
I have no clue how to tell what engine this is.
Can anyone help?
all it says is B18C
and below it is so serial number.

Well it isn't a C5 because it isn't stamped. But it could be a Type R or GSR, I'm not 100% sure but you might be able to tell from the intake manifold. GSR should have butterfly valves if I'm not mistaken.

The block casting itself is the same. If it has the head on it, check the code for PR3 or P72 to tell. P72 is gsr, PR3 is ITR. If it's just the block, check the top of the pistons. You may have to wipe them off a little. Check for P72 or P73. GSR and ITR respectively.

There was a GSR motor that came in a Civic I think and it had a single stage intake. I didn't believe it, but a guy in my city bought one...and then put a Skunk2 intake on. Oh well.

Re: Which B series Block is this?
But the stamping of the motor wouldn't have been a B18C like his, would it?
I'm almost positive that unless the manifold had been swapped he would be able to visually tell wether or not it is a GSR or Type R.
Other than that he would have to open the engine up.

Look, this is very easy to tell them apart.......
As mentioned, in Japan, there were "two" models of the B18C
- Honda Inegra SiR (GSR engine) 180hp with 10.6:1 compression
Like our GSR, it has a P72 cylinder head, black valve cover, snail design intake manifold
- Honda Integra Type R 200hp 11.0:1 compression
Has a PR3 cylinder head, red valve cover, larger single stage intake manifold, chrome oil cap, small mark of green paint on one of the rear mounting arms for the distributor on the cylinder head, larger exhaust manifold (tubular if newer), if a/c compressor mount is still there, is was made of aluminum not metal
The only thing that sucks, is that in Japan, sometimes people swap cylinder heads, so it can be hard to tell then.

B18C = Si VTEC (SiR-G/ITR) ---> Japan
B18C1 = GSR ---> North America
B18C2 = VTi-R ---> Australia
B18C3 = VTi ---> Asia
B18C4 = VTi ---> Europe
B18C5 = ITR ---> North America
B18C6 = ITR ---> Europe
B18C7 = ITR ---> Australia
C6 was rated at 190 BHP, while the C5 was 195 BHP.

Re: Which B series Block is this?
Simply put if it says B18C its either a JDM GSR or a JDM ITR. If the motor is all original, look on the exhaust side of the head right above the header, it will say P72-etc or PR3-etc. If its p72 its a JDM GSR if its PR3 its a jdm itr.

Re: Which B series Block is this?
Less the head, since he never said he/it had one, he has to go with what he DOES have... an unidentified block. If you have no rotating assembly, it doesnt matter which it is cause they are both the same. If it is a complete bottom end, and you dont want to crack it open because you were told "its fine", then check for the obvious differences, ie the aluminum parts instead of heavy metals. If it is an accessoryless short block, you have to look at the crank. Pop a dozen and a half oil pan bolts, look at the crank ID like I said. Check the bearings cause whatever it is could easily be junk and not really matter (like mine was). If the SN can identify it, which would save you a lot of trouble, then let us know. I know USDM motors can and are identifiable, but unsure as far as imported, overseas built motors.

Re: Which B series Block is this?
if it only says b18c then you know the block is jdm either itr or sir. if a number is stamped after the last letter then the motor is most likely us, edm or canadian. with out a head youll have to do what the other poster recommended and pull the head.

Can you please stop putting miss information on this forum. Your high post count does not match your knowledge (or lack there of) on this subject.
