Default Auto transmission guru? Shifts hard after swap

Anyone on here know much about the auto trans? I swapped a new one in my wife's 98 CX hatch, but it shifts hard. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to adjust it so it doesn't grab so hard.

Also, is there a factory service manual that I can download somewhere?

Is the D4 light blinking on the dash?

Is the CEL ON? If so, pull the CEL code. It may indicate a transmission problem.

Is the ATF low?

I PM'd you.

my first thought would be ATF if it was replaced i really hope you filled the toqure convetrer cause that would cause hard grabbing and shifting problems

When I put everything back together I originally had a CEL, it was the 2nd O2 sensor. Turns out I didn't plug it in all the way.

The D4 light doesn't blink when I turn on the car, it just turns on with the CEL, then they both turn off.

****... I think not filling the torque converter with fluid is my problem... I thought it would fill automatically. How much do I need in there?

I realize that, but I thought those two holes on the end of the shaft that the torque converter sits on would fill the converter.

So am I going to have to take the trans off again to fill the torque converter? Or can I do it another way?

have you checked the fluid level after driving it? Because after you drive it a little bit it should be way low and then you have to fill it back up again.

Yeah the fluid level is fine. If anything it's at the top mark of the dip stick.

After reading the FSM, there's a pump that pumps ATF into the torque converter before it goes anywhere else. Talking with the owner of AAMCO trans, he confirmed that as well.

I'm going to put the old solenoids on the trans + see how that goes.

After driving for about 50mi or so, the check engine light came on. I pulled the code + it says 70 (7 long blinks) but that's not in the guide on this forum so I'm not sure what it is. The D4 light also blinks while I'm checking the code. Anyone have any helpful info on this?

I'm really not sure. It's stock so what ever came with the car. It has the blue two prong plug under the passengers side and that's how I've been checking codes for it.

Nope. The only cable is the one going from the shifter.

probably shifting stiffer from dropping new fluid in it

I put some seafoam in it to clean it out. I'm going to change the shift solenoid and maybe fluid tomorrow.

Well if its OBD2 pull the codes with a code reader, it will give you a more specific code. You should have the OBD2 plug by the fuse box.

I swapped out the anti lock solenoid and the shift control solenoid and the CEL went out but it's still shifting hard. I'm going to have the guy at aamco check it out tomorrow.
