What exactly goes on during Limp Mode?!
So I'm throwing a CEL and I know that I can't fix the problem right now, so my question is what exactly is limp mode?? Can I still drive on the freeway? It's a D16Y7 Auto.

just because a CEL is on doesn't mean the car will go into limp mode.
the retarded thing now is that CEL's could indicate a small problem with the most minute, mundane sensor in the car. It's a big farce between car companies and the EPA, it gives the car companies an excuse to get you into the dealer to drop big bucks, to have a code read and a stupid sensor replaced for the purpose of emissions BS.
If the car is in limp mode, you'll know it. It will limit your rpm, thereby limiting speed.
How does the car run?

Re: What exactly goes on during Limp Mode?! (ferio252)
well I rented code reader from Autozone and I merged onto the freeway w/ the CEL on. My pedal was almost to the floor just to maintain 70mph and I could definitely feel it was in limp mode. I pulled to a rest stop, cleared the CEL and continued driving and the initial power returned. It was a P0740, which is a TCC (torque converter circuit malfunction) which can be caused by a number of things. If a simple tranny flush doesn't work, I'll go from there. My shifts are fine so I'm kindof bummed and it's causing me so much headache.

well, at least it's not something with the motor.
It's a bummer to me to find out you're autotragic!

hehe sorry dude. Yaah I'm autotragic right now. Bought the car (99 Civic DX Sedan) from my brother a few years back for 1K so it was a deal.
Next car will definitely be a stick. I'm soooo sick and tired of auto tranny BS. The D16 runs like a champ, never a problem, but this tranny business....
