ATTENTION H-T Help with vin numbers
whats up thanks in advance for the help..
A friend of mine bought and rebuilt a theft recovery 99 si, with a legit jdm motor and all new factory parts.. well he brought the car in for its inspection, the inspectors cant find any visible vin numbers to see if the car is the same car on the title.
Now they are impounding the car and they are only goin to be giving back his motor, unless he can come up with a place on the chassis or under a panel that can show them a complete vin that the theives might have missed. The removed vins are the firewall, fenders, trunk, dash, doors, and back bumper. do any of the bumpers have hidden vins? are there any i dont know about?
CAN SOMEONE HELP

IF they take the chassis, I would sue somebody's *** off........I am possitive that the junk yard cannot sell the car without the VIN. Good luck man......

bump
and dont take this as a flame..
i dont think your friend got screwed. who in the world would buy a car no matter how good of a deal and not research where to locate all the vin #'s.
your friend didnt research his project well enough.. he could have easily walked into any dealership and talked to the service manager. if you have an id they will walk you through all the vin # locations. and then you could have used this information and found out the TRUTH about this car...seems to me your friend got too happy and bought on impulse with doing a complete search on his project.
i would say take this guy to small claims and see what happens.. but remember the judge will ask you the same questions
1. what did you do to make sure this car was not stolen or yet had any vin# for you to properly register it?
dont take this as a flame thats not my point. but to me it seems it was a bad deal from the beginning with any vin # cutout...
good luck and hopefully things will turn out for the better.
and remember no oem vin# you will never get a replacement vin# you have to have atleast one for them to consider giving you a replacement and thats no gurantee either.

seriously,i would go and try and get new vin #'s .i just ran into a stripped 98 gsr"they left the motor though?"and it was basically carpet shell andsome of the dash.the owner of the yard sed he couldnt sell it to me for the same reason.not one damn vin # on the whole ******* car.3 grand wasnt bad and then i found that out.he tried to sell it to me as a track car.

Re: (PHOBIA)
Maybe you can get some help from a dealership. Go there and ask. My advice is this: Try to find some parts on the car that haven't been touched by theives or anything. Random suspension peices, dashboard, dash wiring, master cylinders, ect. Maybe you would be able to track the car down through a dealership if you got some part numbers? Just a suggestion, bump for you
