Either the person you bought it from swapped a legit motor in there (99% of the time stolen motors dont have vin tags still on them) because the old one went bad. Or theyre just dumb and they put a hot motor in there and never removed the vin tag. Either way, that wont deter people from buying it! Why do you think this market is so wild. I personally would never buy anything stolen or i dont know the origin of it BUT with thast being said, Most of the stolen motors ive seen have had the vin tags removed!

To be sure... run the Vin number on the motor to the police station and just have them check to see if its stolen or not. If it goes through ok then you have nothing to worry about and will have no problems selling the car later. Just think about people who ruin their motor ans have a shop do the repairs and put in a new motor. Those won't have matching Vin tags either if they go the used route.

See if the seller has a reciept for it and ask for a copy. Tell the seller that you will be going to the police to check the vin. Explain to him that if it does come up stolen that you are going to point the finger at him.

This way you might get more info from him.
