Default anyone primered their own car?

my friend has a del sol, and he's planning to have it painted a different color...but he wants to primer his car, so he would save money. so if anyone has primered their own car before or know some who has...what are the steps to primering a car?

Yup, what the guy above said. Most shops will redo whatever preliminary work you do to guarantee that their paint will stick!

primer is porous, allows water to get through.

Unless you use a primer/SEALER, any decent paint shop will block sand and reprime your car before painting it.

Can anybody answer a question straight?
Tape up any part you dont want primer on. You need to get off the dust, grease or oil on it too, or it wont stick. Its alot more work involved than you think. I say don't do it if you are not fully aware of what you are doing. Go to Books A Million and get you a "How to paint a car" book, its in the automotive section.

finish all of the body work first then wet sand or scotch brite pad the entire car then prime...dirt and grime will stick to the primer remember that primer is sprayed to give the paint something to adhere to....dirt does the same trust me ...my car is primmed yellow....black exhaust fumes do not wash away anymore...

maybe I should wash my car more when the seasons change!!!!
