Default anyone know their stuff about mufflers?

i have a d16y8 with a gutted cat. everything else is stock and i wanna muffler that is very quite at idle/ crusin, but has a little bit of sound (deeper) when you push the pedal down.. nothing loud or annoying. and nothing with a huge tip. just want a clean look and not that annoying raspy sound. and price as well is a concern

Apexi WS2 is my vote.

Edit: It's got a big tip though.

I can guarantee anything you put on your car is going to sound like **** with a gutted cat, go buy a new cat (aftermarket), or buy a good used one. Your check engine light will also go away.

replace your cat with a high flow one, If you are in california get a low emissions cat. I would get a greddy exhaust.

heard you say thrush. makes me think of what i have. i have a 2 inch inlet and outlet dynomax turbo muffler. just like the thrush. i figure its perfect if it had a small resonator. thats in my setup. as in i have a cat so a small resonator would be ideal. now with no cat i would say a 18-22 inch resonator, turbo muffler and some pipe. looks stock and sounds great!!

ohh. and its cheap to buy.

Often overlooked is the need for a good RESONATOR built into the B pipe in order to remove the raspy crap sound a lot of straight pipe to muffler set-ups have.

You can have a nice muffler, but if you have no resonator in line then it'll still sound like poo-poo.

Obviously the Apex-i catback system will have a resonator built into the b-pipe, but if you get a Vibrant, ES oval, whatever make sure you have a muffler shop weld in a resonator. I know it sounds ghetto but I had a Cherry Bomb welded into my B pipe using it as a resonator and then a quiet muffler that was intended for some old Hemi Dodge on my old 1990 Civic and it sounded awesome. Very quiet, but in higher rpm you knew it wasn't stock.

agreed i usually run 2 resonators one that comes with the b pipe and a resonator for the test pipe.

Apexi WS2 all the way!!!....the tip is not that big..in fact it will look smaller once installed in the car..so quiet ..almost sounds like a stock when idle.
