Default Anyone ever tried a EXOSPEED cam in a D16Y8?

On their website, they only have the street SV cam. Has anyone used this cam in their Y8? I'm thinking about getting either the Exospeed or the ZEX 105300 on my NA A6 mini-me (I/H/E/bolt ons), and I just wanted a little info on the Exospeed cam. Reliability, performance, (stock) valvetrain durability. TIA

I had the Street SV in my B7/Z6 mini-me...

Car pulls all the way to redline, and you're still making power when it hits rev cut...you really need upgraded valvetrain to take advantage of this cam.

it says its all motor, but if i wanted to go turbo could i still use this cam...or would i need to tune it different or get a new cam?

Doesn't Comp Cams make one for the Y8? You can also go with Crower.

this is the 59300 right, and i want to know why you hate it also, i belive withthat cam, to make some nice power you should get some zex valve springs and leave stock retainers, but i dont have personal experiecne withthat yet, just what i have heard, but i just bought my new 59300 cam shaft

Comp Cams is the maker of ZEX cams.

Still wondering why Built to Spill doesn't like the Zex cam...

BauleyCivic, just wondering why I would need to upgrade my valvetrain, have you broken any springs or noticed much wear? How long have you had it installed?

I don't plan on going turbo. I'm at around 10.5:1 compression, so I want a cam thats built for all motor, but my motor isn't a high compression screamer....

I dont think it works well with my setup, and its extremely loud. After major tuning i only pulled 93 hp on a dyno. Fell free to pm me on my setup. Its only my opinion, Sohc_MShue loves that cam on his setup w/ turbo.

edit: The only thing i did notice was that my car pulled all the way redline as mentioned above.

Is the cam built for a turbo setup? I know nearly any cam I get will make quite a bit of noise.

From what ive read/heard the cam does well with turbo setups. And what cars ive ridden in with the cam, their cars seem to run extremely well.

i have the zex 109300 cam with the compcam valve springs and I've really enjoyed it. I hang with mustang GTs, celica gts, v6 eclipses and preludes are no match. modded gsr's and rsx's give me a run though. If you're making only 97 hp with the cam I think there may be something else wrong with the setup.

Because, you want to rev a motor up until it stops making power. The cam was still making power at 7400 RPM, which is my fuel cut...on exospeed's website they say it makes power to 7800. You will bend valves if you try to rev the motor up that high on stock valvetrain, you need at LEAST a stronger valvespring that will push the valve back into its seat faster so that it wont get smashed by the piston.

Talk to wil first about valvetrain upgrades, but if you're going to go over the stock fuel cut i'd imagine you'll need springs and retainers.

Cool. I was just wondering because I don't plan on going past stock fuel cut for now.

Thanks for all of the info guys!
