Re: Re: (mrx381)
I have a 92 VX. I always keep track of my mpg. I average 38-43 mpg. it has over 140k miles on it.
I don't drive like a granny..i like to take off at green lights once and a while..but other than that, i drive pretty conservative. If you shift when the shift light comes on, you'll do good.

I know you asked about the VX, but I have a CX that gets between 38-40 mpg when my wife drives it and 40-45 mpg whenI drive it. I hit 46.1 once. Completely stock, no mods.

Same here too...though I actually hit higher @ 48mpg - I couldn't believe it and thought the pump just shut off early, but I filled her till she spilled, so the mileage was right.
40mpg, 87 octane, and uses a $125 O2 sensor - golden.

The CX I had that was stolen had a light in the cluster but it didn't work. My gf brother has a 90 CRX HF and his has a shift light.
About the gas milage, my 92 CX that was stolen, I used to get about 40mpg consistant. It was stock, no mods.

I think the VX mileage rating would only apply to VX models that are either new or in very good condition. I believe the O2 sensor is the most important in retaining your mileage. And considering it is a wideband sensor which are known to not last as long as a narrowband, having a bad sensor can reduce mpg like my VX. Another factor contributing to mpg can be good amounts of carbon buildup througout the engine further increased by the EGR system that is present in the VX models.
I have a VX w/180k miles and the check engine light was coming on due to faulty heater signal from my O2. I ended up around 35mpg on the average.
Since my b16a engine swap, I've gone from truck gearing to motorcycle gearing. Quite a change.
Also have a nearly new(around 500 miles) VX O2 sensor if anyone is interested. It is the Bosch Wideband adapted to the NTK/NGK connector and works fine.

Re: (n1div)
While we had it on the road (not in race trim), our VX got an easy 45+mpg using the shift light.
On the other hand, my built GSR swapped DX gets about 32-33 on the highway.
It's all in how you use the right foot.

Re: (dwnthehatch)
yea, the VX came with an "economy shifting" shift light. It looks a like a green turnsignal, but it points up.
oh, i forgot to mention, my 38-43 mpg VX has only an intake and axle-back exhaust. The car came with a new O2 sensor when I bought the car used a while back. I have 14" alloys with meaty tires..and its lowered, but i dont think that'll effect the gas milage.

I don't really see any use for intake or exhaust on a VX unless it is strictly for replacement purposes. As for 14" alloys, depending on how heavy and wide they are, can contribute to the overall fuel economy, although it might be negligible.
VX owners should also check to see if they have front lip, rear diffuser, and front half radiator block off shield. All of these things can contribute to fuel economy, especially if you're trying to ring every ounce of it out.

With my del Sol SI, I have got 41.2 mpg before, and thats with it running rich, and a intake and huge exhaust
Now I have a GSR swap, with stock exhaust, gutted cat, intake, VX civic front lip, lowered, and lighter then stock wheels and tires (lowering + lip + lighter wheels= better gas millage) and I have got over 36mpg with it.
If I can get 36mpg with a b18c1, and 41mpg with a d16z6, I sure hope you can get 45+ out of a VX
