Default another weird noise thread, another mystery

Its not a clicking, not a clanking, nor is it a sputtering. Its a very strange whirring sound. If youve ever run your finger around the rim of a nice wine glass, then thats the sound it would make. Not a screaching like a fan belt, but a metalic whirring. It doesnt do it at idle, only while driving and its very off and on. More noticable while accelerating and it seems to be comming from the front passenger side (transmission area). It starting towards the end of a very long (12 hour) drive through the PA mountains. I looked around today but didnt notice anything obvious. Its a 94 civic, 5 speed. I put in new half shafts about 3000 miles ago, along with honda mtf fluid and thats all the latest maintainance. Anyone have a clue?

Have you modified the intake or currently using an aftermaket one?

If you do, I have seen intakes create a resonance to make that noise. Check that out.

I installed an aftermarket intake over a year ago, but it never made any strange noises. That was the first thing that came to my mind as well, but upon visual inspection it looks fine. Also, the noise only occurs while the car is in motion, not at idle or reving in neutral. Makes me think it might be transmission related.

check for anything rubbing against the rotors or wheels of the car. check your pulleys maybe some rust on them?

just gave it a more thurough look, checked the trans, fluid is super clean and full. I finally got a chance to get the car in the air and I tried spinning the wheel on that side. It had a bit more resistance to it and then half way around it has alot more resistance. Just to be clear- when you apply the ebrake it shouldnt effect the front brakes, correct? Because the other side spins pretty easily. The noisy side looks like the caliper is frozen on it and feels like I have a warped rotor. Sounds like a correct diagnosis?

Oh yeah, and I checked all the belts and pulleys, appears fine. Its not that kind of noise anyways.
