i know this is has been covered before but when i searched i wasn't able to really find what i was looking for. i have been getting poor gas mileage, 25-27 in the city and 28-30 highway...is this considered poor? i have heard of 35+ in the city...anyways i have replaced the fuel filter, plugs and wires, checked the air filter (clean). what am i missing? i drive a stock d16y8 all my tires are at the correct psi and im not hauling a bunch of stuff in my trunk. the car runs fine no CEL the car idles fine. i don't beat on the car i usually shift at 3500-4k and cruise at 3k or less.

any help would be great, 40+ bucks a tank is killing me

Read all the comments I post in this other thread. Follow the instructions I gave this other person will greatly increase your MPG.

i appreciate the help, this is how i have been checking my gas mileage since i got the car...i do have si wheels on the car but i was assured by my mechanic that the tires he put on the have the same circumference as the ones he took off...but i will take a look at that site and see if it makes a difference...im only averaging 300-325 miles to a tank (about 8-9 gal when i fill up)

when you replaced all that other stuff did you replace the cap and rotor and the air filter?

Also, do you have any performance mods?

Hmm. From the numbers you gave us, it looks like you are averaging 36.76 MPG. That sounds somewhat normal since that motor was rated for 30 city and 35 hwy.

If you really shift at 3500-4000 RPM and still getting the numbers you putting down. I say that pretty good. You can try shifting really early, say 2500 RPM. It will feel like crap but in order to get more MPG beyond the rated MPG you need to shift a bit earlier than 3000 RPM.

that mpg isnt bad at all 30 highway is good if anything mayb it could be 32 or 33 but nothing crazy... who ever told u 35 plus city is wrong thats just crazy its not a hybrid

usually people that are getting 35+ city mpg are doing things like shutting the car off at lights, accelerating slowly, not braking hard things like that.

If you are really concerned with mileage look up hypermilling. I've seen write ups about civics getting 40+ that way.

check your o2 sensors. If they've about had it then your ecu isn't reading the proper afr and might be running slightly rich. That could be what's getting you.

I can go 400 (more accurately 380-400 mark) miles on a tank in my 96 accord. I also fill my tank up with 89 octane and only fill it up at Hess or BP. I'm just like that.

i messed up those numbers i get 300 miles on 11 gal. when i drive like gandma and in the winter im lucky to get 250 miles to a tank

Running 89 octane for your car will not benefit you down the road. The recommended octane for your vehicle is 87.

That is still a respectable number. The rated MPG for each car is tested and rated under ideal condition. We all know the road and condition of each location is never close to ideal. So Again, if you want to archive higher than this you much shift sooner than 3000 RPM. Try shifting all gears at 2500. I Bet that will add a good amount to your miles.
