what is the biggest cam i can use in a b18b1 without having to change the computer

well do you want to go with aftermarket stage 2 or 3 or r u wanting to go with a stock cam from another motor...

Why are you so set on keeping your stock ECM? You need something to tune with if you start running modifications like camshafts and whatnot

idk much about this stuff so im askin around tryin to learn about it. im re building my head because there was a bent valve. so while i have it all apart i wana replace or upgrade parts.

Well if you start upgrading beyond stock your going to want something to tune air/fuel mixtures and timing with. When you start allowing more air to enter the engine (bigger cams), you need to suppliment that with more fuel and adjust timing accordingly

yeah but isent the computer suposed to use the sencers to adjust that

haha no first off if u wanna do a bigger cam ur gonna need to upgrade ur valve train(valve springs and retainers) and then do a bigger cam and to tune ur car ur going to need a type of engine management like hondata with a new ecu such as a p28.

if u were running a gsr or b16 u could upgrade to better stock cams such as ctr or itr and itr valve train which u would be able to run a stock type r computer for.

Spell check is your friend.

Stock ECU's can only vary air fuel mixtures based off the oxygen sensor which is a narrow band sensor that only reads on a 1 volt scale. Wideband sensors which most tuners use have a 5 volt scale giving the tuner a lot better idea of what adjustments need to be made. Also your stock computer has no idea that you have aftermarket cams in at wide open throttle. The map sensor will read the same but the profile of the cams will allow more of that air to enter the engine which also needs adjustment. The list goes on and on, but since you are a trial user you have maxed out your posts for today. So ask some more questions tomorrow and I'm sure people will help you out
