ac gas question
my car, as its a 94 civic, comes with 134a cooling gas inside the AC system i believe instead of freon. it says that 134a cooling gas is enviormentally safe, so does that mean that i can vent it into the air without hurting the earth (yeah yeah)?
tnx

Re: (EVIL Hx Coupe)
no you cant, it still not ok to evacuate the system, most a/c shops will do it for like $20. you can let if on in the air but it is very loud and it sprays the freon and oil everywhere, dont ask me how i know this
but even if you do get it evacuated there will still be pressure in the system so when you pull the hoses get alot of rags and some goggles and keep your mouth closed, dont ask me how i know this either

Ok maybe u want to cool the world down.. thats cool.. just let it spray out.. and stand away.. thats what i did. If u feel bad for the environment after that, just tell everybody to put back on the catalytic converters to reduce smog....

Actually if you want to get technical, you're not even supposed to work on your car's AC system without an EPA MVAC certification. But if you're really concerned, if somebody that doesn't like you knows their laws and regulations, it's a $25,000 fine for you if you get caught working on an AC system without certification, and the person that turns you in can get up to a $10,000 reward.
As far as venting refrigerant, eventhough 134A is supposed to be environamentally friendly and has an ozone depletion factor of "0" you still can't vent it. Crock of **** if you ask me. EPA says it doesn't mess up the ozone, but yet they still won't let you blow it off. Oh well. More money for me. A simple recovery job on the outside runs you between $50-$100
Anyway, off the record, just crack one of the fittings and let the stuff go REALLY slow. Let it take it's time. Nothing to it.
