Default Air Conditioner-99

Condenser has been changed, system has been recharged. Air will only get cool when i'm on the gas, such as on the highway. Ideas? Thoughts? Does it just need more freon? I don't think there is a leak, because it's done this for quite some time now. Heat is plenty hot in the winter, so i don't think it's a thermostat issue??? thanks

It could be a compressor issue. Best to have it taken to an A/C shop. Another easy way to test it is to see if it switches on intermittently at idle.

P.S.: Your thermostat has nothing to do with the A/C system.

it kicks on while at idle, such as at stop lights. it causes the car to move forward a little bit when it does this sometimes too.

Did you get it shop pulled to -30 psi with the correct ratio of oil to freon pressure added back into the system or did you just go to autozone and buy a kit and pump it up?

buddy of mine at a shop recharged it back up to 30. And the acc. belt is brand new now. I did not, however, vac out the filter.

Did you change the drier? I just had my ac fixed...I had to get a new compressor along with a new drier ($40) and replaced both at the same time. Then I charged it using a kragen refill kit for like 30 bucks...my ac now blows COLD air ...

yeah it is best for you to change ac dryer/ receiver when u recharge the system.is the ac belt tight? ac compressor seizes up? ac fan works?
there are several reason for ac not to be cold at idel.

don't for get the water valve on the heater core.
my friend ac didn't work for 2 years till we found the valve was open all the time turns out the lever arm broke off the valve and the temp selector did nothing for him.

are you looking at the right fan? the a/c (condensor) fan should be on at all times when the ac is on. if it is intermitting or not working then this should be your problem.

for you to get cool air in the cabin from the a/c, air has to travel through the condensor. if the fan is not working, this will explain why you feel cool air when you are driving and not when you are at a stop.

A/C 101

A/C dosen't cool the air it remove the heat.

thats way you have a fan on the HEAT Exchanger in the from of your car.

yes it removes the heat, but air has to travel through the condensor. no airflow, no cool air, GET IT!
