i was just wondering can a JDM D15B engine able to pass the smog in cali ?? talking about no other mod just normal or stock engine. and one know ?

one more question if you drop that engine to a 98 Coupe Ex engine bay can i use the stock mount ? why not b16? i think is hard to find a usdm with right price so b18c1

Well it won't pass smog in a 98' Civic. For one, the JDM D15 is OBD1, all cars 96' are OBDII, and its illegal, atleast in Cali, to put an engine in your car that not atleast the same year or newer.

what bucsjosh said about the motor needing to be the same year as the car or newer but in general yes it will pass smog but you gotta hook all your smog stuff... The d15b intake manifold doesn't have all the correct smog connections if you search I believe someone did a write up on how to modify the d15b manifold to work with usdm smog equipment or you can do what I did and just use a d16z6 intake mani and coolant line that runs right below the intake mani and it's plug and play!

my d15b vtec passed smog, without doing anything to it. It passed in nc though, don't know if it would pass in cali.

let me clarify... it might pass smog technically without the z6 stuff, but in order to pass visual in cali it need the usdm equipment hooked up...

What else does it need to be hooked up? mine has everything hooked up that was already in my car. nothing is bypassed.

with the d15b intake manifold you don't have a place to connect one of your vacuum lines from the purge cut solenoid valve (it goes from that to the back of the intake mani)... you can T it off with another vacuum line but imo it's a half assed way to do it and unless you find a shady place to get smogged won't pass visual in cali.

true, on my d15b i dont have a purge cut solenoid vacuum line... what did i do? yeah, i T'd it off with another vacuum line. it worked fine and hasn't given my problems. looks stock too.

smog though? i dunno, i just got my cx to pass... the visual literally took less than 30 seconds... they noticed a hairline crack in my exaust manifold.... dunno if they'll notice the T line...

I suppose there is a very good chance the Gomer doing the smog won't know what the hell he is looking at but I would rather have it done "right" so to speak and not have to worry about it... There's ways around almost anything. I guess i'm after that completed look not the oh yeah i need to work on that so it's finished someday look... No offense to anyone T'ing it off, I did that for a little while until I had some free time. I guess I'm just **** about my car!

well my d15b didnt come with any purge cut valve at all.

the vacuum line thats supposed to go to it comes off the top of the charcoal canister..
I just plugged it up...

well.. car doesnt run yet so I cant say how well it works, but ppl said it dont mata..

as far as smog goes.. well I wasnt tripping off it,
if you plug/t it off so it looks coo i sincerely doubt any smog guy is going to know about the differences in purge cut valves as they vary from model to model and region to region...

they are more likely to notice the fact that you DO in fact have an engine that does not match your car.

It depends on where you are. In california if you're getting it BARed it won't pass unless you use the usdm oem emission control devices for the visual as well as the ecu and wiring harness that is for your car. You also have to use an engine the same year or newer than your car. So depending on what year your motor is and what year the car is it might or might not pass.
