99 si wont start...Died at stoplight
driving today after leaving a friends house. Pulled up to a stoplight and car was idling fine. felt a slight tumble and the car dies. Try to restart to no avail. Did a routine of checks. First off the fuel pump is not priming it is dead. I have replaced it with a new one. nothing. There is no spark. I did the screw driver method and no arcing or spark. I replaced the coil inside the distributor to no avail.
Car ran perfect before all of this. Upon turning on the key there is no check engine light. Car cranks just will not start. ANy help would be greatly appreciated as the car is not in the best neighborhood right now.

Start by checking fuses 13, 25, and 44.
Also check whether the ground on the thermostat housing is loose or disconnected.
Did the CEL work before? Does the oil pressure light also fail to turn on?

Re: 99 si wont start...Died at stoplight
I will try and might i add that i did check other fuses and found that my fuel pump fuse was blown. i replaced it still no dice. Also oil pressure and brake lights do illuminate. we had to take the plastic shroud off the inside of the distributor to gain access to the coil due to the rotor being stuck on. I feel the problem is simple. Your help is greatly appreciated

Fuse 13 is the fuel pump fuse and fuse 44 is the ECU fuse. Double check both. If fuse 13 is blown again, there's a short in the main relay/ECU/fuel pump/IACV/fuel injectors circuit.

Both those fuses are good as i have looked them over the fuse for the fuel pump also did not blow again and was good while trying to restart. what is fuse 44? Do you have a diagram? i have heard of the tranny/thermo ground. didnt check as it was getting dark...any other options? when it died it was under normal conditons. It was still warming up. THe check engine light never illuminated while trying to start it or whe turning on the key.

check main relay if it doesnt turn on or throw any voltage out to the pump the fuse for it could be blown. so check the fuses like stated above before throwing any parts on it

The FAQs sticky has the fuse diagrams you need.
Check all three installed fuses I mentioned with a test light -- click the Fuses link in my signature.
Have you cleaned and tightened the ground wire on the thermostat housing?

Update.....Car is running. Was not the main relay. Oddly enough it was the FP Fuse it seems as though the new one i put in burned out. So two fuses later here iam with a running car. Thanks for everyone that helped out on this thread. Especially ronj@ht

I'd be on the lookout for why these kept popping...something dangling around and grounding out?
This, and keep a nice big box of fuses handy
