Default 99' DX Hood latch (any alternative ways to pop hood?)

So, its been sub-zero all weekend and I let my car sit, now I can't get my car started.....started to crack normally and then started to slow down more and more until I got nothing. I'm assuming I can get it started with a jump but I can't get my hood popped. I know there is a problem with the latch/cable system on 99' civics. I have unfortuantely suffered from this problem. For a while, I could use plyers to pull on the cable and pop the hood. For the last couple months I have not been able to open the hood this way. Are there any alternatives to popping my hood? I have read that I can open the hood latch with a flathead screwdriver, anyone have any insite? I have an OEM si grill so I can fit a screw driver near the latch pretty easily. any help is greatly appreaciated !

Yeah...this is a shady post for a first timer...

Crawl under the car, mark where the latch bolts, remove the entire latch.

That is by far, the hardest way, but with all the honda theft there is...its the only one I feel comfortable telling you

ok , well I know that is not the easiest way to open my hood, I''m not a dolt
I apprechiate teh fact that you are trying to avoid honda theft, but I am in a jam here, I don't want to pay 85 dollars to have my car towed just so I can have my hood popped and get a jump. Any help ? any way to prove this is not theft ? Print screen from geico?

so i looked in the service manual and found the hood latch assembly, it looks like there is the latch and a striker? can anyone confirm this, it looks like the striker has to be pushed in the then it looks like I could slide the latch left.....is this correct?

Just jack the front of your car way up in the air and take the whole latch assembly off.

I myself dont know about any easy way.
i had to replace my hood latch cable and I made the unholy idiotic mistake of cutting the cable and shoving it up into the firewall where it got stuck.

With my hood still being closed. So i jacked my car way up in the air and took the 2. or maybe its 3 1omm bolts off to take the whole latch off.

have you tried having someone pull the cable while you push down on the hood?

you may have to remove the splash guard and find that cable nearer to the latch and pull on it.

Just take the interior kick panel off on the inside by the hood release and that should give you enough room to get some pliers on it to give it a good tug. Then drive to your dealership buy the $15 hood release cable and replace it.
