so got this car last month 99 dx 1.6 sohc... while putting a new shifter boot on today i noticed a small push button right about the hood release, the button is a trigger button (when pushed it is on and released it is off) while car is off and sitting there the button does nothing... but when you crank the car and than push it this is what happens
push and release button horn honks once
push and release button again horn honks twice like beep,beep kinda quick
push and release button again horn three time kinda quick
and fouth time horn honks four time quick
but on the fifth time the horn does a beep..... (BEEP) its like louder on the second beep and about a 1sec in between the two and than the cycle starts over
so any clue what this could be, without my tear the dash out and a part to trace wires?

There's no realistic way for us to tell you what that is. Start tracing wires, or call the PO and find out.

My alarm does the same thing but flashes the parking lights in the same way instead of honking the horn.

Sounds like the old in view valet button for the older alarm systems.

If you can find the brain unit you might be able to track down the manual for it.

The set of beeps is for specific functions of the alarm. And quite likely you are in valet mode at the moment or the alarm is just off and not set to auto arm.

If you accidentally get to the toggle function of auto arm you will be screwed as is sounds like you don't have the fob for it.

With the manual, you may quite likely be able to get a cut trace type fob and program it to the alarm.

One of the more common ones that was considered a quality alarm and the go to for some shops back in the day is the Clifford Polaris alarm.

The manual is not readily available and I got lucky the place that originally installed the one in my car still had one of their old techs around who had a digital copy of it.

I can make it available to you when I am home. I noted that most of the old clifford alarms used pretty much the same menu system just more advanced models had additional menu items deeper in the menu.

If your car is working normally, quit fiddling with that button with the ignition in the on position for now. At least until you locate the brain so you can get the manual for it.

Oh man...deja vu on that one.

My cousin bought a 4dr civic for his sister and then we replace the battery and did an oil change. When all was done and tried to start the car it wouldn't turn over. Come to find out I heard a clicking noise, like a relay (so you know what happened next), I went hunting. Fortunately enough whoever installed the alarm did a dumb job of hiding the brain (or it was standard to put it behind the fusebox, right?) and I just unplugged it. Car started up afterwards.
