99 Civic DX Cooling Issue HELP!!!
Hi, so I been driving my 99 Civic DX with this issue that I've trying to solve for a long time.
the problem is when I drive the car for about hour and haft to 2 hour the coolant will over pressure and push the coolants out through the back up coolant tank's cap, and i see that the back up tank has lots of oils in it, no white smoke through the exhaust. also i did flush the coolant 2x but strange thing is usually the top cooling pipe to the head should have a breather but it doesn't. it also kill my radiator cap every 3-4month, it has about 190k on the motor, stock automatic, i had replaced the valve cover seals the head valves looks pretty new doesn't look like it ever dried out on oil b4. also it didn't loose that much oil on every 3.5k the oil still sit at the first dot. every new oil change the oil is filled a about 2/8 from first dot and second dot.
if anyone experiencing this issue please let me know what i need to do to fix this problem... will supplies more infor if needed...
thanks guys

head gasket I would guess, they're no other way for oil to get in the coolant. the best way to really know is to use a block tester. You can buy or rent one from your local auto parts store.

I'm thinking it's the head gasket also, but i guess all the oils sticks into my pipes and radiator i guess i had to replace the whole radiator too!!! was thinking about those full all alluminum radiator from ebay, and new back up tank to have completely clean coolant after the repair...

Change your thermostat. It's like $8 and it could very well fix your problem.
PS - there are other ways to have oil-coolant exchange than a blown head gasket.

bottom attached pix:
1st. pix of the oils builds up in the backup coolant tank.
2nd. pix too much pressures cause the cap seal to breaks
3rd. looks like that part suppose to have a breather there, mostly on other civics, looks like that part had been replaced from previous owner, should I replace with a part with breather?
4th. the engine bay D16Y7, is this engine vtech?

At some point you must have over heated this car. Bad enough to either crack the head, lift the head and stretch the head bolts, or blow the head gasket. All of these possible issues would require you to replace the head gasket. You should start by starting your car and removing your radiator cap and see your coolant is bubbling, if so you probably have one or more of the above mentioned problems.
To answer your question, no that engine is not vtec.

the car been running ever since, just earlier i started it and put it on Reverse too fast so the engine shuts off, then i tries to start it up again i just hear a whining noise but looks like the flywheel is not spinnning. how do i bypass (aka push button start?) this to get it start up so i can move the car to the right location so i can start taring up this baby to get it repair. thanks...

Re: 99 Civic DX Cooling Issue HELP!!!
So I'd planned to go with a major tune up with my car
Will replace:
Radiator, Hoses
Coolant
5w30 Oil
Cleaning Intake Manifold
Clean out Injectors
Thermostat
Water Pump &Belts
Head Gasket
Did seafoam her today and flush the coolant and in process taking the head apart. during the seafoam process on my spirital drive I pick up these stuff for my major tune up. has took a nice HD of DIY seafoam on it

I would recomend changing the water pump, timing belt, and timing belt tensioner while you have it that far apart.
