the plugs are different. you can buy a "repair" harness from most car audio shops if u cant get the stock plug. then u can buy a harness that plugs into the stock car wiring. put the 2 together, and u have a plug and play setup

i like the way the facotry cd players sit in the DIN slots no need for any kinda special kits and it looks really clean plus im not all into loud systems so theres no need for me to aquire a pricey head unit that has features that i dont want. i liek the way the stock units sound too i have a cx hatch and i recentlyu wired up 2 more speakers in the rear side panels like the SI hatches have and it sounds really nice with 4 speakers in a hatch in the factory locations nice and full sound. also the stock cdplayers are well built and play all burned cd's easily

talk to the car audio guys at best buy.
ask them for a reverse harness for whatever car that the stereo your trying to install is out of.
a reverse harness is the 'stock' harness that plugs into the back of a stock stereo.
you could also get a regular harness for the car your installing the stereo into.
then match up the wires, solder them together, and voila... you have an adapter.
