Default 97 Hatch Issue's

I bought what i thought was a decent running 97' hatch. The PO explain to me that it had a "Mini Me" swap in it. I haven't been around Honda's for a while so I'm not up to date on it. Basically he put a z6 vtec head on the stock block and ran a p28 ecu with a obd2 to obd1 jumper harness to run vtec. It runs decent, just low idle at times plus I don't hear or feel the vtec. I was told that it wouldn't pass smog like that and I would just have to put a dx ecu(p2e) in it. So I got one tonight and the CEL was on and it ran for a long as kept my foot on the pedal. After that it wouldn't start. My code reader said p0450, IACV circuit, and Cylinder Position Sensor. But when I plug the p28 back in it runs as before with no real issue's.

Any help would be deeply appreciated !

If it's mini-me swapped, the evap and CPS were probably never installed. The IACV was probably converted from 3 wire to 2 wire. You're going to have one hell of a time getting it running on an OBD-2 ECU, let alone smogging it.

No CEL's with the P28 ! The stock engine is a D16y7, why wouldn't the stock ecu run the engine as is with no vtec ?

Where in the High Desert ? I'm in Victorville near 395hwy and Luna Rd. Maybe you can give me a hand ! All I wanted was a car to go back and forth to work in without having to specail smog it ! I have no plans for mods, rims, etc. Just want o drive it, my project car is a 74' Datsun 260z that I'm dropping a turbo 4.8LS1/6 speed .

The engine is NOT a stock Y7. It's got a Z6 head on it and you will need to run the P28 with it in that configuration. Period. Find a Y7 head.

Well i decided to fill up this morning and after doing so I swap the ecu to see and the car starts and runs and even idles now. It has a weird idle though like it bounces at a certain rpm.

Still has a code but only 1 for IACV circuit, would that cause the weird idle ? I drove it and its choppy kind of, its either on the gas or off. There's no smooth transition. Don't know if I explained it right !

So you were told you cannot run it correctly with the P2E ECU and you're doing it anyway?

Yes the iacv could cause your idle problem

It is but you don't have a stock motor. Get a y7 head or keep using the p28

Do you have a smog hookup ? I'll just use the p28 for now and get the y7 head later.
