97 Civic ex engine problems
So I live in NH and of course its pretty shitty weather right now. Well a few weeks ago it was raining hardcore and i didn't see a huge *** puddle and i ran right through it. My car stalled and then didn't want to turn over. I pumped the gas a few times and eventually started. Once it started, the engine started making sputtering sounds. I thought that i got water up into my engine because I have a cold air intake and it's close to the ground, but my mechanic said that the water would of burned off by now. THis has been 2 weeks since then and now my engine sputters even more. My exhaust sounds so horrible. It's louder, like I have a hole in my exhaust. My mechanic checked it out and found that my aftermarket header had an O2 sensor cap that was missing. He plugged the O2 senser with a non working O2 sensor. I recently just raced a Camaro, 05 Mustang and a Monte and of course, got my *** kicked... lol So now my exhaust is even worse. Any advice of you hondas out there? Im new to this, so im sorry if i don't get any technical obvious reasons why my civic is fucked up....thanks

Perhaps, when you hit that huge *** puddle, you broke your exhaust pipe a bit. And now, with some driving it is getting worse. Have your mechanic inspect the pipe. That's all that i can offer.

Check the exhaust piping first.
Does the engine sputter otherswise?
I had a similar problem on a teg after a heavy rain, some people said water might have gotten into the ECU others said the Throttlebody needed changing (which sounded odd-apprently somethign to do with the throtle position sensor tps) . That all I can offer.

back to the hard starting issue, do an oil change immeidately becuase you may have water in the oil, a possble hydrolock scene. as far as the exhuast goes, that comes 2nd, get the engine to run corretly first, then do the exhuast.

I got an oil change after I ran into the puddle. I thought that too, but my mechanic couldn't really tell what would be wrong until he hooked my car up to the computer and thats $50 just to hook the damn thing up. I just wanted to get input from other sources. Thank you

Re: 97 Civic ex engine problems (Asianscivic)
Hello Again. So my mechanic found out the problem. It is an internal engine problem. He thinks i blew one of my pistons but it would cost just 250 min just to take off the head to take a look at it. He said it would be about 500 min to do the whole thing...any suggestions or advice on how to get around spending that much?

THe only advice i can give you to minimize the costs would be to do it yourself. If not, well there isn't that much you can do about it. If you trust your mechanic, then stick with him and let him to the job.
