Default header installed....CHECK ENGINE LIGHT?!?

we installed a header and downpipe on my 98 civic ex..
at first we we def heard an exhaust leak and took it midas 4 a quote and they charge $43 for 1/2 hours time on it...we said [freak]it and left..on the way back, my check engine light came on.
we took it to AAP and they checked it and it said: o2 sensor circuit malfunction
they guy told us to clean it up with brake parts cleaner and we should be good

we took to a friends and fixed the exhaust leak partially( it still sounds like its leaking) cleaned off the o2 sensor. and screwed it back.
after a 2 minute drive, the light cut back on..
my friends dad said that since i got an after market part, i should get a new o2 sensor
is he right? could that be the problem?

It's more likely that you tugged one of the O2 sensor wires a little too hard during the install.

Were you expecting something big?

you barely got three horses A) because it's an inline 4 did you expect more? B) with a tune, your air/fuel ration will be correct and not running rich, or lean because when your engine throws codes it means your air/fuel could be off because your oxygen sensor isn't running, so you run rich or lean to try and compensate. and C) a header just opens up the middle section, you need to put an exhaust system on there to really open it up instead of going through a large diameter at the header to a smaller one at the stock exhaust. plus with a header you really should only see about a 10% increase at max. and for a 100 horsepower 4 banger, your lookin at about 10-15 tops. sorry to break the bad news to you.

I'm actually surprised you made 3 off of it. Do you already have an aftermarket exhaust installed?

Is it possible that you plugged the Primary and Secondary O2 scensors wrong. By this i meand cross-plugged them. I had that CEL on my B16B motor and it gave me that code. All i did is put the right plug on the Primary O2. GL

well no i wasnt really expecting a great amounts of horses...but thought that around 8 should be do it...
i didnt mess with the secondary o2 sensor...
imo i think that the o2 sensor went out becuz it waznt supposed accustomed to the change that the header brought..
will i need like a performance o2 sensor? dont kno very much about that..or should i jus get another regular o2 sensor as a replacement with the thought n mind that the last one "died"
money is not really an issue. what kinda tune up should i get? i also dont kno a whole lot about that....

Just replace the O2 sensor with either a Denso or NTK, Denso would be my first choice, they supply honda with the O2 sensors in the first place, NTK are a very close second and should work equally as well. Stay far away from Bosch. What probably happened is the O2 sensor got damaged when it was removed from the original manifold, O2 sensors are quite delicate and it often is quite hard to remove them from an exhaust manifold after they've been in there for a while. Replace the O2 sensor and you should be good to go.

94E...
What do you have against the Bosch O2 sensors ?
Is there something we might learn here ?

Yes, they suck. They just don't seem to last like Denso and NTK, and i'm not the only one saying they're crap either.

x2 on the Bosch is garbage, they like to throw "Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response" check engine lights and they don't last

to the OP: you probably just damaged your O2 sensor, you can buy a direct replacement OE Denso sensor for $60. Stop being cheap, and no, your car doesnt need a tune from a header
