Default 96 civic ex huge hesitation/no power between 2k-3k rpm

Hello all. I have a stock 96 civic ex 5 speed and it has a huge loss of power between 2k-3k rpm. Anything above it seems to be ok. I have gave it a full tuneup and there are no cel's. Anything else I can check?

i'd say there's nothing really to check, stock d-series doesn't have much power to it in the lower rpms...

Yeah that's what i've heard. Just kind of a pain in the *** because this is the normal day to day driving in town rpm. I'm just used to v8's i guess but the mileage makes up for it somewhat. I read on AEM's site about there short ram intake and the torque improvements look worth it. Are these real numbers on there site or the typical bs that manufacturers put on there website?

hey my 97 civic ex has the same problem. I just bought it like 3 months ago. It has about 117,000 miles on it, but its NOT burning oil or leaking anywhere. Usually starts to happen after i get off the freeway or after long periods of driving. Must be the low power engine as stated above....man i miss my mr2 turbo, i can't stand having less than 240 hp, but its all about saving gas now ;P

MR2 turbos are getting hard to find. Nice cars. I am not sure how much longer I can stand this lack of power. And I am definitely not going to mess with this car either. Might have to get me another mustang so I dont have to rev it to 3k to get it to move.

no, i dissagree, there might be something wrong with the car......check plugs, wires dizzy cap/rotor, fuel pump ground, fuel filter, air filter.

also make sure fluids are fresh, PCV valve is clean, no exhaust leaks. My 4dr ex 96 moves pretty quick, and ive drivin some fast cars before. Yes the d16y8 is slow, but i have a problem with the hesitation around 1-4 rpms. it only happens "sometimes", more than not, but when its working, I can chirp the tires and a pretty stock car, and 0-60's are pretty quick.

might be a sensor like your TPS or MAP, check your grounds, timing everything.

Ok I have new cap+rotor, new wires, new plugs correctly gapped, new fuel filter, new air filter, oil recently changed.

Now the timing thing, i checked it once before but my haynes isnt very specific on which mark it's supposed to be set to. Could you give me some pointers here?

Also i looked forever to try and find the PCV valve but could not find it for the life of me. I looked under car behind manifold and all that, nothing i could see.

Also if it was a tps or map sensor wouldnt it throw a code?

I could check the grounds even though I don't know where they are really :D

thanks guys.

Ok I did a search for both timing and pcv valve. Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm looking at making sure the mark is in the center right? This is with the service connector jumped of course.

Also looks like the oil filter needs to be removed to get to the pcv. I just did an oil change and was curious if I take the filter off only a little bit of oil should be replaced right?

no, u need to manuver your hand above the oil filter to get at it. I can even do it without jacking up the car.

TPS and MAP sometimes wont throw a code, maybe there is a break int he wire somwhere...lots of things could be wrong. check fuel pressure. get a helms for ground locations, resand those spots down.

Damn you must have some skinny arms!

Well just took a look at the timing and it looked like it was on the mark to the left of the center mark, so I adjusted it to the mark to the right of the center mark. Will this be ok?

Can you guys tell me if that mark to the right of center is advanced or retarded? I still have the hesitation problem as well.

thanks
