Icon6 96 civic cx hatchback won't move in gear...help?

Hi,

So I have a 1996 Honda civic hatch with 240k and she has been going good. Until a few days ago. I noticed the car barely had power at times like going up hills and if i dropped a hear it pretty much did better but engine was starting race more than usual and than all of a sudden just didn't want to go at all.

I can put it in 1st let off the clutch, nothing. Doesn't stall doesn't move when given acceleration. I can have it running start pushing it jump in and I can keep it going at an unbelievable 2 or 3 mph but at the same time its in 1st and rpms are prob around 6-7,000 steady the whole time. My first thought was great clutch just went but after talking to a few people and after buying a new clutch I was told it might be the slave. Before everyone starts saying I have to bleed my system, I did. I can put the car up and start it. Push the clutch on put it in first let off the clutch, and the wheels start spinning, it does it for all the gears. That wouldn't happen if the clutch was burnt up, correct?

So if anyone wants to please tell me how to see what the problem is, how to fix it, do I have to take the transaxle off <--only Bec I have tried took all mounting bolts, and the bolts going to the block the mounting bolt for the starter and nothing block won't separate and just moves with it and its aggravating. Please someone help me. And to the best of my knowledge that transaxle hasn't been off since the car had 0 miles and its now 240k but I could be wrong.

Sounds like a burnt clutch to me.

right. even with the clutch being basically gone, it will still have enough grab to move the tires if there is no resistance.

The slave pushes the swing arm which actuates the pressure plate. The pressure plate's natural position is in an "engaged" position meaning it's clamping down on the clutch/flywheel. If the slave were going bad you'd have trouble disengaging the clutch (I hope I stated that correctly).

I'd have to side with Ron and say clutch is done. I had a friend call me once to figure out what was wrong with her boyfriends car. She described basically the same thing. The dead give away (at least for me) was that I could put it in any gear and it wouldn't stall, it would just rev. I could also shift through the gears without depressing the clutch pedal and it would not grind.

There are a couple of other scenarios that may result in a similar condition but, like I stated in another similar thread, you'll only really know for sure once you open it up.

your axels may not be in all the way...happened to me when i first swap'd my gsr in.. we put the axels in but didnt click them in..took it to the muffler shop to get piping done and the car completey stopped at the entrance. i could literally roll 1st gear no stalling and going nowhere.
