Default 96-98 vs 99-00 d16y8 head

Are there any differences on the exterior of the intake side? I know the intake manifolds are different. Also, on the 99-00 intake manifold, where does the nipple on the middle of the flange go to? Thanks

wow-zeez, am I the only one that knows this?

99-00 heads have air injection holes. Holes are there basicaly for emissions sake. Anyway, 96-98 doesnt have these holes.

As for where does the nipple go to?

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and just look it up. I forget but I think the air intake. Not sure though.

So on the back of head where the intake manifold goes there are actually little air injection holes there? Any pictures of it? Every y8 head I've seen doesn't seem to have those holes in them.

Also another question. In the middle of the head where the intake manifold attaches there is a chrome ballbearing in it. What's it for? It matches up with a hole on the intake manifold flange that leads up to the nipple I was talking about earlier, but I bought an oem intake manifold gasket and when put on the head it covers up the ball bearing..

NO

The 99-00 cylinder head is also different. The casting was changed, just added some extra sealing area for the 99-00 intake manifolds.

The ball bearing you see is for the oil passage in the head, and is used to seal it off after the head is machined.

The nipple in the center goes to #24 in this pic.

I can't quite make out what anything is on the pic besides the corner of the cylinder head.

The piece on my block looks more like #7 than #23 in that pic. I can't find #24 anywhere on my motor. Help please.

Could it be because my block is a y7 and not a y8?
