yes you can, as far as i know which is 99.9% sure all d series trannies are swapable. I would stick with the ex tranny from a 96-00, better ratios

yea all d series are the same the y8 and z6 trannys have the same gearing but the y8 is better because the teeth on the gears are longer so they are stronger.

All the hydro trannys are interchangeable. you dont want to use a cable tranny for obivous reasons. but im curently using a y8 tranny on my jdm d15b vtec in my 92 dx hatch. bolts right up. the differences between the z6 and y8 trannys are the shift forks. the z6 are cast aluminum, and the y8 are steel. the z6 can break, and the y8 can bend(speaking from experience). but the gear ratios are the same.
