94 Civic VX loses power and jerks when gas is low
I have a 94 VX with an 8 gallon gas tank. Usually when I get to around less than 2 gallons of gas left, the car will start to stumble, hesitate, and lose power drastically. Like when going up a gradual incline I'll start at 60mph and be at 30mph at the top. Pushing the accelerator to the floor and letting off again will sometimes bring the power back briefly, then it'll jerk and hesitate and keep doing it.
When I take the gas cap off there is a vacuum hiss. I replaced the gas cap, I thought maybe air couldn't get in and replace the fuel being sucked out, but that didn't help the issue. Any ideas where to start? As soon as I get to a gas station and fill up, problem disappears.
Thanks for any help!

Some vacuum in the gas tank is normal.
Check the pickup and pre-filter assembly on the bottom of the fuel pump. You can remove fuel pump through an access panel under the back seat, no need to drop the tank.

Good to know about the vacuum. I replaced the pickup and fuel pump when I bought it 3 years ago, but it had been siting for some time before that, maybe the tank was rusty inside. I have a new gas tank and pickup filter already, so I'll get those installed and see if that helps. Thanks for the response!

I believe the tank is plastic, so no worries about rust. As mentioned, most likely the original filter-pickup broke/fell-off the end of the fuel pump. You can buy them for cheap in a Denso box. Denso made the original ones, but Honda never sold them seperately.
