Default Civic Ignition Distributer Unit Replacement

Ok 1st post... be easy .

I bought my first Honda a couple of days ago... high mileage, 1997 Civic. Standard. I normally drive a diesel and my commute of less than 5 miles on it is not fun.

Soo... oil is leaking out of my distributer cap.. I saw them on ebay where I can just buy the whole unit.... i figure it is easier that way... is it just plug and play? Do I have to re time? Sorry for my lack of knowledge..... Thanks for any help you can give me!

Purchase a HONDA not aftermarket distributor.
Ensure you have a fresh distributor O-Ring and then reinsert new distributor.
Use timing light & paper clip method to set ignition timing.
Enjoy your non-leaking distributor.
More info on each step is in the FAQs.

I don't see why you need to replace the whole dizzy. If it's just the oil leak you want to fix, that is just the o-ring.Quick fix, just mark where the dizzy is located so it goes back in the same place.

I agree. you don't need a whole distributor for a small oil leak in the gasket. Honda Distributor gaskets are available or... Make your own with some Permatex.
