I failed on:
HC 129/92 and High CO 0.61/0.55 @ 2017 RPM - 15MPH
HC 171/57 @ CO 0.53/0.54 @ 2081 RPM - 25MPH

CO2 was 12.7 and O2 was 0.01 on both runs. NO was 326/716 and 379/764.

I take good care of my wife's car. It has new plugs, air filter, regular oil changes and valve adjustments, ignition timing was retarded by tech before run.
It runs great normaly and gets good gas mileage.

I don't want to just randomly buy parts unless they are needed (like cat or O2 sensor). Any smog techs out there have any (legal) ideas?

Is the car a automatic or 5 speed the rpms are a little high. I would do a tune up i know you said you have new plugs but what about the cap and rotor and wires. What was the reason the tech retarted the timing before hand.

12.7 is running a little rich for these types of test. What year, motor, ecu is this? Was the car cold or fully operating tempature? Things to check would be ECT and IAT.

1994 Auto - D16Z6 - stock P28 ECU- about 150,000 miles. The cap, rotor and wires were changed within the last 10,000 miles.
Car was hot, up to normal operating temperature anyway. It had been driven around all day. The tech retarded the timing after seeing bad results on the first run. I can't verify where he actually set it.
ECT seems fine, it has a new thermostat. I have an IAT laying around I could swap out. If it's running rich, maybe it is the O2 sensor.

I'll just take it where they say to take it and let someone else troubleshoot my vehicles for once. I hope anyone who had to go to a test only station and failed knows about this.
