94 Civic Clutch Issue
1994 Honda Civic EX, completely bone stock, 200k miles on it.
The other day when I hopped in my car, the pedal started grabbing closer to the ground, and there is a lot of dead play at the top. I checked and my reservoir was empty. I filled it, bled the system, and it felt normal again.
The next day, it acted the same again, grabbing closer to the ground with a lot of dead play at the top. This time the reservior was filled and everything looked fine. I do see some type of oil/fluid leak on top of the trans, but its kind of old and caked on, so im not sure what is leaking, but I don't believe the clutch hyd. lines are compromised.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You probably have a leak that has allowed air into the system. Check for a fluid leak at the top of the clutch pedal or at the firewall (=bad master cylinder) or from the slave cylinder. Replacing the leaking component should solve the problem. Be sure to thoroughly bleed the system after the work is done.

Re: 94 Civic Clutch Issue
checked out the leak again, its engine oil...and I think its coming from the rear main seal. There is no leakage from the clutches hydraulic system, and the level is still full. I just dont understand how, if it is oil from the rear seal, which is probably getting on the clutch disc, i dont understand how it makes me clutch feel like that...i figured it would just slip a lot and burn.
I'll jack up the car this weekend and take a better look underneath to determine exactly where the leak is coming from. its not a bad leak, i have maybe 10 small spots in my parking stall over the last 9 months.

dude it has to leakin from some where like RonJ@HT said.. if not it could be faulty bleeding not saying you dont kno what your doing but just saying.. because if its not leaking and its bled right the oil leak will just make it slip. if all that doesnt fix it, its time for a new clutch..........or a swap lol

Re: 94 Civic Clutch Issue
The leak is engine oil....NOT brake fluid.
I can't determine where the leak is coming from, but I can guarantee it's not from the clutch system. I've checked it religiously since bleeding the system, and it hasn't dropped at all in the reservior, also I followed every inch of the clutch line and no leaks. Since I see no external engine oil leaks, and I see evidence of caked on older oil ont he inside of the bell housing when I remove the clutch fork boot, I am guessing its either the rear main seal, or a seal on the trans.
I'm not an idiot, I've been working on cars for years and have called a few friends that are mechanics, and nobody has an answer as to why my clutch is grabbing aggresively, considering a leak would normally cause slippage instead.
Again, THE LEAK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CLUTCH SYSTEM...IT IS ENGINE OIL.
I know it went empty for a reason, but that is most likely because I bought the car 9 months ago and never checked the level, so for all i know it was low this entire time. But I can assure you, the only leak I have is engine oil.

Re: 94 Civic Clutch Issue
last thing I wanna do is start dumping money into this car if that leak is as big a problem as I think it might be...although it is a great suggestion b20hatchek, and I will consider it if I keep the car.
