I've got this same issue, on the exact same kind of vehicle. I replaced the brake power booster (car sat for 3 years) and swapped the master cylinder with one from a 1996 EK civic. Still quite spongy. I'm curious as to how anyone else has fixed it.

bleed them in this order passenger rear, driver rear, pass front, then last driver front. if it is still the same then i would bet its your brake master cylinder.

...but how is he bleeding them? I've seen people bleed brakes with the bleed screw open as they pump on the pedal... then wonder how air is still in the system...

i bled them rr, lr, rf then lf. pumped pedal a bunch of times then crack bleeder open and close it let off pedal, and so on and so forth. Bled them again today and no air in lines at all. worked b4 with now problems and after new pads i have spongy pedal.

Found this from a Nissan site:
When you pushed the caliper pistons back into the their bores, you may have bottomed them out. Remove the caliper and take out the pad above the pistons. Put in a thinner piece of wood in the pads place. Just hang the caliper over the rotor, and have someone depress the brake pedal. Watch to make sure the pistons move. Sometimes crud builds up on the piston and or the piston bore, and will not allow the piston to move once it goes past the piston seal. If the pistons won't move, replace the calipers. If all works ok, you may have unseated a check valve in the actuator module, when pushing the pistons back into their bores, forcing the fluid back to the master cyl. Disconnect the battery, have someone press down on the brake pedal and crack all the lines, one at a time. See if that helps.

One your bleeding it wrong. My del sol manual tells me pass rear then driver front then driver rear the pass front. Just did this on my del sol a day ago. Came out good.

Glad you figured it out. I fight with spongy brakes a lot with my '96 EJ. This winter I upgraded to a 1" Integra M/C and it's made a huge difference. Plus, it's a bolt on mod with no bending of the lines required.
Also, you should do a complete fluid flush every now & then (when you replace to rotors is good rule-of-thumb). Water will build up in the fluid and it boils under hard braking (AX, roadracing) causing serious fade.
