93 civic d15b7 temp gauge doesn't work
I bought 2 civics a little while back, one ran no title, other didn't run with title, the running one I took the engine out of and put in the non runner, before I pulled it i ran it for a little bit, everything was fine, but no working temp gauge in it, didn't think much about it, swapped it just the engine, trans and harness, in the other car, still no temp working, checked the sensors, the fan sensor and temp sensor, both had decent readings, still don't know If they may be bad or not, checked the wiring, ran different wiring to the temp sensor to firewall plug, still no working gauge, went and got a tach cluster from the salvage, still no working gauge, I'm at my wits end with this stupid thing

I never even considered that for temp, I assumed it to be an oil sensor, will check it as soon as I get home

That is the temperature sensor, or "sending unit", that drives the gauge. That is all that that sensor does. The hotter the engine is, the lower the resistance to ground and the higher the needle goes.
The one next to it with two wires is engine temperature for the ECU. It does not affect the gauge. The sensor for oil pressure is on the back of the engine above the oil filter.
When the gauge does not move off of cold you also have to consider the thermostat could be stuck open and not letting the engine warm up normally.

Yeah, like I said I don't know why, just assumed it was for oil, don't know if the thermostat is working because I didn't want to get it to hot

Thanks for the help guys, that sensor was the issue, grounded wire, temp gauge spring to hot, got the new sensor in and she works!

If you didn't you likely introduced a small pocket of air into the cooling system and that can give you grief.
