Icon2 92 civic wont start in the morning or hot/cold weather!!

i have a 92 honda civic. every morning i have trouble with starting it up. it cranks but does not turn over.when it does it will start for about 5 seconds until i sounds like it back fires and shuts off. when it does finally turn on and i give it gas it will rev up for a bit then die down while my foot still on the gas. it would take me like 10 min of just letting it sit and would start ...sometimes. it will go the whole day with out a problem after that.i noticed it happen when it is either in the morning, cold or even hot. so i know the weather has nothing to do with it.I have changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and also the oil filter. i want to fix it!, but if any one might know what is wrong please help me out b4 i spend more money that i don't need to spend. thanks!!

- civic sedan

Try cleaning the FITV on the throttle body. Click here.

You also might want to check the ignition timing with a timing gun.

okay so i took apart the new distributor cap that i put on and noticed that there was rust powder in the inside and on all of the 4 terminals of it. does this mean there is water getting into it? would that not let the car start?

That powder usually suggests that the distributor bearing is blown. You should replace the distributor.

hay i took your advice on cleaning the FITV on the throttle body and also cleaning the throttle body it self where it open and close. since then it has been 2 days and it starts nice! no problems i guess it was just a bit dirty. well I'm going to give it a couple more days and see if it keeps starting and I'll give you a heads up on what happens thanks a lot RonJ@HT!
