92 civic h22 TACH is wayyyy off..is this normal
ok, i have a 92 vx with a h22a1 USDM...it has a OEM Virgin p13..ALL my parts are mine and were not bought from a place. my engine/trans/ecu has all been owned by me therefore i Know what i have. the ecu is Not chipped or tampered with.
This is the problem, my tach is wayyyy off....and i dont mean it is reading high either, it reads way low i believe. For example. when vtec kicks on the tach reads 4500-4800 BUT when i hit fuel cut, it reads 6500-6800. and being my exhaust is so loud, i installed a small red led to light up when vtec is on. So what my question is, IF the ecu was in safe mode WOULD it engage in vtec AND cut off at 6500? i thought that whenever the ecu was in this mode it would NOt engage vtec and cut off at 6500.
i know this sounds crazy but i am gettin pissed off at my civic. lol
and for ***** and giggles, i have no knock sensor hooked up, no egr, and my iac is throwing a code (which is my only code present in the ecu) I have a snap-on scanner which gives live data, i havent had a chance to hook it up and drive the car while lookin what it reads as rpms.
i know i need to wired in my stuff but the car does drive great and it does engage vtec which i am positive of because of my bright led that lights up. I know alot of people are going to say "hey fool, u need to wire up the rest of the stuff and your problems will go away" but thats not what i need to hear, i know this!!! but i feel like if vtec is engaging it should go up to 76-7900 like it did in the past 2 preludes i owned that this SAME engine/trans/ecu has been in.
so the main ? here is... Does any h22 civic owners experience the tach being rediculously off??? I have read and seen that the tach in a civic will read significantly higher that it really is, for example if you are at 7800..the tach may read 8000-8200...ALSO, will a p13 ecu engage vtec And cut off at 6500????!!!
I am lost with this one and would like some input from some h22 civic owners. THANKS!!

My tach is way off as well. I have a b16 with a chipped p28 from phearable. The vtec crossover is set at 5800 when my tach shows 5000 and the, fuel cut is set at 8200 while my tach shows 7000. This is with everything hooked up and no cel's.

well. i just found something that said
IAC wires on a EG civic is blk/blu and yel/blk...i saw a plug that is yel/blk and red and i Just plugged it in (yes its 10pm and im outside workin on this POS) and now it has a Horrible bouncing idle at 1400.
before i plugged the iac in. it would only have a bouncy problem when u gave it 5-10% throttle....this is so weird..

with the iac plugged in with the correct plug and it runs like dog ****...it ran kinda ok before..like i said if u give it 5-10% throttle it would run bad...but now with the IAC plugged in...it was basically undriveable..like 0-99% throttle it surges so bad its undriveable..keep in mind i have hasport mounts and it is very rigid..so this bucking/jerking/cuttin on and off every 2 seconds makes it undriveable...
i am pretty much ready to burn this car to the ground..lol
Any input anyone??!

ok i hooked it up 2 the snap on scanner and when i floor it and hit fuel cut...the scanner read 7889. The tach is now reading 7300 when i hit the cut off...so its not too bad now.
BTW, i got all my codes gone except the IAC code 14 and "knock sensor problem" code 23. thats becuase me or my dad accidentaly broke the knock sensor..so im lookin for a knock sensor now. and trying to figure out why the car runs sooo bad when i plug the iac in... when it is unplugged it runs alot better. BTW, the iac had no problems in my preludes and it was removed from the lude and put straight into the civic...so its not like my motor has been sittin for any period of time.
