3rd BROKEN CAT! what should i check now
i have a 1998 honda civic lx auto w/y8 IM, I/H/E and 110k miles on the little y7. This is the third broken cat since my distributer started acting up. Replaced the dist. then it went about 1/2 a year before it is broken again. WHat causes a CAT to break completely. These are not cheapo cats either two Magnaflows and one carsound. What should i start to look for.

what do you mean break.
Break as in the catalyst is coming out or breaking off the exhaust system?

How do they break? Also, did you remove the stock Y7 exhaust manifold and cat which made you get an aftermarket cat?

Broken=loose metal in the CAT. Converter. No it is not broken off the car, it has no flanges to bolt to. I had it welded on.

u fitted a new dizzy latley? ur timing cud be wrong and unburnt fuel is getting into the exhaust system, this will cause the cat to over heat and break up.get it checked with a strobe timing light.
