Ok, im desperate now... My car just broke its third cat this year and i have no idea whats wrong. It passed smog test fine in march and ever since they crap out.

There is no discoloration on them just sounds like 'shattered' pieces inside. What can i do to diagnose this issue?? i want to take care of this before i go SC..

any help will be welcome!!

Is it hitting anything else under the car? What exactly is wrong with it? I'm afraid I don't understand the sound it's making...

the car is pretty much stock exept for a cold air intake.. the cat has never hit anything on the road so taht posibility is ruled out... Wheer at iddle or low speeds the emits a rumbling noise (shatter pieces coliding among them).. Mi last cat broke so much that its pieces got into the exaust pipe makign it very very slugish..

my concern is that there is something wrong somewere that is braking this cats and i need to find its source and take care of it. (i wish i could just use a straight pipe but we got emissions test in texas)

Are you running a high flow cat? I remember blowing out 2 high flow units because they failed to meet obd2 standards. I later found out from almost every local muffler shop that some of the aftermarket high flow cats were not really obd2 compliant because the obd2 cats tended to produce more heat than the obd1-pre, thus running a non-obd2 cat caused a tendency to blow out. Hope this helped some.

i dunno if this cat is a odb2 or not.. but ill check on it.. any other area i might check that could cause the failure of the cats i have installed?
