nope, not at all.
i remember reading about it and the orange wire is like a ground wire, saw it in the helms manual.
i drove around like that for a while, but got a skunk2 for my lil d16y8.

What he is referring to is when you've already completed the 3 to 2-wire swap. At that point, the orange wire has no function. It can be pulled from the ECU connector if you wanted to since it is NOW connected to nothing.
But if you thought you could control a 3-wire IACV with an ECU that originally controlled a 2-wire IACV, think again.

Ok so. Say I get the 5-spd ECU for the HX. And use that instead. And change hte 3-wire over to 2-wire. It should work right? (Assuming I repin it correctly)

Are you trying to source an Hx ECU or you have an Hx that is currently auto? The only 6th gen Civic ECUs that control a 2-wire IACV are the D16Y5, Y8 and B16A2 with manual tranny.
So the answer: Yes. If you get one of the above ECUs, a 2-wire IACV, swap the connector and do the pin swap, it'll work....assuming you re-pin it correctly.

In addition to moving a wire at the ECU connector, you must also swap the connector that plugs into the IACV from a 3 to a 2 wire style.

You chop off the previous 3-wire connector (in the engine bay) and solder on the 2-wire connector. You're now done in the engine bay.
In the cabin, you disconnect one of the ECU connectors and move a wire into a different location. You're now done in the cabin.

You can get one like at a junkyard or something. Or maybe someone is selling them here on the classifieds.
Or you know what? Go to one of your friends... ask him to pop the hood to his engine bay... Snip off his 2-wire connecter, pocket it, and go home and put it on your car.
It's not an aftermarket peice if thats what you were wondering.
