Default 2000 CIVIC COUPE OIL PAN...CHANGING

2000 civic coupe DX. What needs to be removed in order to take the oil pan out. I have not looked under the car, but I have a feeling my oil pan gasket is leaking. Is it a mission, or is it cake. I have basic tools, but nothing that needs a compressor, etc. Thinking about keeping myself busy this saturday!

pretty easy job, the pan is held on with 10mm nuts/bolts. you will need to remove the flywheel cover to access a few of them, its held on with i beleive 2 12mm and 2 14mm bolts. you should be able to slide the pan out after that, if not you may have to remove the exhaust/header that runs under the pan to get it out.

i beleive the torque on the oil pan is like 9-10lbs so be careful not to over-tighten

Sounds easy enough. Should I buy a gasket from Auto Zone ($23.99) or I just called Honda and they say they use a grey silicone that works just as well.

Oil pan gaskets suck. I changed mine twice and it still leaks. The autozone one is still silicone I think, it's just blue... I'm thinking maybe my pan is bent or something! I was real careful on the torque specs and all this last time to, still have a drop on the ground every now and then. O well

use a gasket, i prefer oem honda parts. the grey silicone should not be used for the whole gasket

Like dpetro1 said - do NOT over tighten these bolts. It's very easy to do. Use a Honda gasket and Honda-Bond in the appropriate spots (and make sure to clean the mating surfaces well so the Honda-Bond sticks) and tighten in the correct sequence.

the only exception is when grey RTV (or Hondabond) was used without a gasket from the factory. the only example i know of for sure is the F23A1, there could be others..
