1999 Civic EX - Noise and CEL codes
Hello fellow Honda-Tech members!
Recently, my 99 Civic EX with 189,700 miles on the clock started making an odd noise when accelerating to pass another vehicle. I just had the Distributor replaced, and Timing Belt and Water Pump were done on 12/7/13. Check Engine light is on, and codes are P0430, P0420, and P0706. I took a short video (so you can see what it's doing), and can be viewed by clicking this link:

Thank you for all of your help, I truly appreciate it.

Re: 1999 Civic EX engine problem
Where exactly is the noise coming from?
Do you have holes in your exhaust system?
Next time post what the codes are. We don't have these things memorized.
P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0706 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Performance
Is this an automatic?

It sounds like the noise is coming from right underneath the shifter (or somewhere close by). Oh, sorry! I have images of the codes, didn't even think to post them. It is an automatic transmission.

What code reader did you use to pull the CEL codes? P0430 and P0706 are not Honda codes.
Jump the service connector to pull the CEL and D4 codes. Click the Codes link in my signature.

I think it would've been easier to put the car on jackstands and get a better idea under the car. Sears has a set of 2 for the price of one. Get em.
