My wifes accord has started making a noise under the hood, its hard to pin point the location of the noise.. I thought it might be the tensioner pulley or assembley, but i replaced the whole assembley but it was not the source of the noise, Ive started the car without the serpentine belt and it does not make it.. That narrows it down to the water pump, alternator, and a/c, but the noise is the same with or with the a/c engaged so i dont think it the a/c.. I turned the pulleys by hand but i didnt feel or hear anything, there seems to be a little side to side movemnt on the water pump pulley, and when turned in one direction ( i think to the right, i here a slight noise that sounds similar to a piston goin up and down) but it does not make the noise turn the other way.. Can anyone help me figure out how to pin point the noise, or a better way to check it out? any tips, tricks, suggestions, Any info is much appreciated...

I know its late, Havent been on in a while.. but just thought I would update to maybe help out anyone else...

It was the water pump causing the noise, not sure if it was pulley or bearings, could not make it make the noise after removal, but when mounted like I said in the post, the pulley had side to side play... I also had the Alternater checked while I had it off to get to the waterpump easier, Autozone failed it, but I think the LADY had it hooked up wrong, I also had it checked at o reillys they said it was good but the guy said I may want to keep an eye on the bearings, so I took it to a Alternater shop, they checked it out and said everything including the bearings were fine, almost like new.. Well 2 weeks later the Batt light came on and it started making a noise again and would stop if you unplugged alternater.. So ended up having to replace it also

Does the sound change at all, when you turn the steering wheel? Is there any black stuff around the power steering reservoir hose, where it goes into the pump?

Could be the power steering pully. Put a screw driver up to it so you can listen to it. Is it loud and consistent with what you are hearing?

i have a similar problem, not as bad as yours. how many miles is on the car? my problem right now i was told that there was something wrong with the bearings (due to rust? or damage) in my alternator, which is the cause of the loud noise for my car.

Mine is making a similar noise. Did you find out the solution. I may also post a video of mine.

Edit:
I found out when I removed the belt that my water pump pulley is the culprit. It actually has play from left to right. The car seems fine otherwise as it doesn't seem to affect driving but I am going to replace the pump before it causes damage as it is more than likely going to fail completely pretty soon.
