1998 Honda Civic LX idling at 4000rpm
Okay guys, so today I replaced my head gasket with a buddy of mine. Took forever. After replacing everything in the gasket kit and putting it all back together, I am having multiple issues. Not entirely sure if I'm just inexperienced and did something wrong. Turned the car over after replacing everything and it's idling at 4000rpms and sounds like its going eighty down the highway just sitting in a driveway. Also, my car won't shift gears while the car is off. It's an automatic so there's no clutch involved. I'm so confused and burnt out after the head gasket repair that I don't know where to start. I cleaned the hell out of the throttle body, it's still idling at 4000rpm. What do?

I'm unable to do more work on the car tonight because it's sitting outside my friend's house, however I can tell you that when the car was off and we tried to put it in neutral to roll it out of his drive-way because I was too worried to try and drive it out with the rpm's, the button on the shifter wouldn't even click it for me to switch the gears period. I had to use the service key to put the car in neutral and roll it down the drive way.

Will do, I'll come back with progress tomorrow. What I really can't understand is the car was running fine on the way to do the head gasket job because I filled it with coolant before I drove it and then I replaced the issue and now I'm having two more.

Cleaned up the throttle body, car idles normally and runs fantastic after the head gasket job. Now to wait and see what the car does the next four days to determine if my head is cracked or not.
