Default 1996 D16y7 into 1992 civic cx

Okay I'm swapping an obd2 d16y7 into a 92 civic cx and I wanted to know if there are any wiring issues that I will run into. Thanks!

Thats right, u have to use the harness and ecu from ur new engine u will be ok. Just plug and play.

Even though the wiring harness in the 1992 is a two piece and the one from the 1996 is a one piece?

i was looking at the harness out of the 92 cx and some of the plugs work on the y7, the tps, the map, oil pressure, and some other stuff, but the dizzy plugs wont work neither will the injector plugs. So am I going to have to get a different harness or can I modify this one?

I got the same year motor but it's a d16y8 i had to rewire the obd2 dizzy plug's into obd1 that's the only thing I had to do with the wiring.

first off you should switch out the y7 intake manifold and get either a d15b7 or z6 intake manifold it'll help out as far as wiring injectors and tps map sensor and what not,you use your cx injectors or find some b7 or z6 injectors again so you can use your 92 cx wire harness the only 2 things you'll have to rewire would be the dizzy and try to get your cx alternator plug to work with the y7 alternator, but again if you do the intake manifold swap it'll make your life alot easier good luck

Thank God someone in here knows what they are talking about! I'm reading over these replies and think WTF??? To the originator of this post, you posted this in the Hybrid forum which is where I replied, basically the same as what "singlecam screamer" has said. Only thing I disagree with is using the Y7 distributor and alternator, just reuse the CX parts if you have them. If not and you need to use the Y7 parts then you can do the plug swap to make them plug and play.

Sure let's use the EK engine harness and ECU from the Y7 in an EG chassis. First off the EK harness is a 1 piece design and will only work in the EK it was designed for... That being 96-98 for OBD2 and 99-00 for OBD2B. You CAN NOT transfer the EK engine harness to another chassis unless you want to chop it completely up and rewire the whole damn thing! How about that OBD2 Y7 ECU, yeah it'll plug right into the EG ECU plugs.... WRONG! Sorry man I might be a noob, but you won't see me giving out info if I don't know what I'm talking about.

I just did this. Well a 97 EX D16Y8 into a 93 Del Sol Si but very very similar.

First of all check all brackets and plumbing. You will have to make some swaps. I used my original harness and the only wire change I had to make was the distributor. I chopped the plug off my old dead Z6 Dist. and grafted that onto the Y8 Dist so it was plug and play. I have details on that here. http://www.turnthewheel.com/Ph....html
I need to review that and make a correction since I think I mirror imaged one of the Y8 plugs but that should be some good info for you.

Here is what I did. I used my original Z6 intake, fuel rail, and alternator. That made the wire changes minimal and everything line up well. I could have used the Y8 alternator I would have just had to chop and graft on the Y8 plug but that would have damaged my complete Y8 harness. The Alternator was a simple swap and fit the Y8 brackets just fine.

Other things I ran into. The mounts had to be swapped out. My driers side and rear tranny mount were different. The Y8 rear mount was a good 3/4 inch too short. The Z6 mounts bolted right up to the Y8 block of course and fit the engine bay perfect.

I had to use the original Powersteering pump from the Z6. I also had to swap the entire support bracket and mounting bracket for it from the Z6 over to the Y8. The Y8 pump will not bolt to the Z6 bracket and the Z6 will not bolt and line up with the Y8 bracket. Also the main line from the pump to the rack does not fit the Y8 pump. It was an easy 4 or 5 bolts to swap the brackets.

There was one small coolant bypass hose that was not reused from the Z6 intake and I simply blocked the house off. Can't remember any more on that.

Feel free to PM me with a question or two if need be. I still have the car in the garage waiting on a window so I can take a picture of something if you need.

the VERY easiest way to do this would be to take everything off your cx motor and put it on the y7 and plop it in. although the dizzy would work, it would only bolt up to a couple holes
here is what i have in my cx
y7 block
y8 head
z6 im
obd1 dx dizzy - all bolt holes line up with y8 head!!
dx engine harness with hardwired vtec wires
z6 alt bracket and alternator

works great

oh yea- had to wire in a 4wire o2 sensor cause of the p28 and uberdata i am running, but you would not HAVE to do that if you kept the cx ecu

well i got turbo and stuff too, but that doesnt count
good luck!! let me know if i can answer any questions

okay, we got the car running fine, and idleing well. The only problem we are having is it still feels like a cx, like the gears still seem really long and it doesn't seem as fast as a normal DX does. Is that because the ECU? It is runnig on the CX ecu still. If we pick up the DX ecu will it fix all problems?

use your current cx wiring harness.

get a obd1 dx ecu should fix your prob. but if you want it running better get a obd1 ls ecu (P75)
