Default 93 Civic CX with 2000 SIR B16A2 engine wiring help

Hi...

I ran into a little problem while I was doing a swap. The driver side USDM B16A2 OBD2 engine wiring harness does not plug into the chassis wiring harness. The plugs are not the same. What can i do in this case? The engine is OBD2 and i have the complete engine wiring harness with the ECU.... The ECU side completely plugs in I think and the original CX wiring harness plugs on passenger side will get unused but what do I do with the driver side?

OK first of all, you HAVE to use the civic chassis harness. You cannot simply disregard those clips on the passanger side shock tower.

That being said, you can not use the '00 engine harness that came with your motor. The easiest thing to do is to get an OBD2 gsr or type r engine harness. It will plug directly to your motor and also plug into your stock civic chassis harness without any modification.

Also I would suggest puchasing a p28(sohc vtec) ecu that has been rechipped to run a dohc motor. It will plug directly into your civic harness(your '00 ecu will not). That is alot easier than trying to convert your civic to obd2.

Good luck.

Can't I modify the plugs on the SIR harness to plug into the chassis harness on the driver side? why won't it work?

I don't wanna get an OBD1 ECU.... The engine and the engine wiring harness and the ECU are all OBD2.. so why all the troubles?

The reason is in 96-00, the Civic changed to a 1 piece harness that goes from the ECU to the motor. Your 93 has a 2 piece that connects at the shock towers. 1 part is the engine harness, the other goes into the cabin. You can't really use the 00 Si harness other than for the plugs and spare wire. Just get an OBDII Integra engine harness and an OBDI chipped P28 ECU- you'll thank yourself later

This is, with out a doubt, the easiest way.
You can always sell your obd2 harness and ecu to make some money back.

Ok looks like i'll be going with the P28 ECU and Integra 92-01 engine wiring harness. It is supposed to plug into the B16A2 engine and into the civic harness. Would that work?

also... with the P28 ecu that's chipped I hear there's an issue with secondary vtec butterflies being always open. Does that problem occur only on B18C engines? Or does B16A2 engine have secondary vtec butterflies also?

no the b16 does not have secondary butterflies. also if you do not wish to track down a integra harness you can always use your stock cx harness it will plug into everything except vtec oil pressure , vtec activation(soleniod) and 02 sensor. this will save you $$$ and you can "hard wire the vtec straight to the ecu very easily.

The stock CX harness is an OBDI harness and WILL NOT plug into everything on a 2000 B16A2. The CX harness would fit the common sensors since they rarely change styles: intake temp, coolant temp, etc. but not the main ones like the distributor and injectors. You need an OBDII Integra harness, preferably a 96-01 GSR. An LS Integra would work also if you have the plugs to spare for the VTEC wiring from the 00 Si harness.

the main reason why you can't use the OBD2 civic engine harness is because its a 1-piece design, meaning the harness is made to go from the engine bay, all the way down the actual ecu in the passengerside footwell area.

All 92-95/OBD1 civic+integra ... and ... 96-01/OBD2 Integra engine harnesses are both 2-piece wire harnesses designs, meaning there's an engine harness and an underdash harness. The break off point for this 2-peice harness is the 3 plugs found on the passengerside shock tower... you should be able to see these 3 plugs I'm talking about, on the 93 CX you're working on.
