1992 Civic Si - Oil leak in VTEC only?
Hi, my very first post.
Just picked up a really clean, bone stock 92 si.
If i put around town under 4500 RPM, it burns next to no oil. The minute I start going over, the oil seems to disappear within a few days. Where should I start on this? Thanks!

i can drive around for 3k miles and not lose a drop of oil..but if i hit vtec alot between oil changes i lose about 1/4 quart. i believe its pretty common for it to burn a little in vtec...especially in our older vehicles

There is very little oil around the valve cover and head gaskets that i can see. No where near enough to connect to how much I'm losing.
Another data point, if i don't wash it for a few weeks and I'm pushing it when I drive, I notice a slight oily buildup on the rear of the car, like it's burning it.

oil pan leaking can cause slighty oil build up on the rear bumper? cause i got an oil pan leaking also...

How in the hell does ANYONE get oil buildup on their rear bumper? What you need to do is clean up the engine bay and motor, drive it around a bit and come back and check out where the oil has situated. Just look around with a good flashlight. It's a pretty self-explanatory procedure.

How does oil "leak" in VTEC? Oil only travels past the VTEC solenoid, through the "carriers" (I don't know what they're called!), and into the rockers. It's much more likely that it's burned.

it could be coming from the solenoid itself if the plug that bolts into the solenoid is stripped me and a friend had the same problem with his b16 just wipe off the are around it and take it down the road and then check when you get back that should show you where the problem might be coming from....

I stopped and befriended a local Honda service person who is also a hatch lover.
What I learned:
Buildup on the rear bumper is carbon from rich mix or not completely burning fuel. Told me to start at PCV and another small valve near it, plugs and plug wires then move on to evaluating Catalytic Converter.
The oil is likely leaking faster from a leaky oil pan gasket or slipping past the piston rings. I'll post more as this darn cold front blows throw and I can bear holding a wrench outside.
