Civic Si burning oil only after 1 month
I have a 00 Civic Si with 90k miles, just I/H/E.
Last month (Feb 4th) I went to Honda and got my oil changed.
I checked the level after they changed it, and the level was right above the top dot on the dipstick. (Honda usually overfills a bit, but I heard it's okay)
Well my problem is, that I've been checking my oil every now and then, and I noticed it is dropping.
I don't beat on my car often, but I will redline it through the gears a few times a week normally.. No where near beating on my car though.
Well today after getting on it a bit, I pulled into a gas station, let it sit about 10 mins, and the oil was barely registering on the stick.
I got home, let the car sit for about 1 hr and checked it again, it's right at half way (between top and bottom dot)
Is this abnormal burning of oil? Does it seem a bit much only after a month and not many miles? I have no leaks at all.
The oil still looks very clean too.
Thanks

haha
So going down to a little under half way in a month is normal? Wow, and they reccomend oil changes every 3 months! I would have no oil at all left.
Is it okay to add some oil? Since my oil is still clean, instead of getting it changed again?
Do I just add any brand 5w30? About how much should I put but not to overfill it?
haha

If you haven't, replace the PCV valve. If it is sticking you can go thru oil real fast.
I don't recommend cleaning it either, replace it. Preferably with one from honda.

you shouldn't be burning any oil, now if you have regular dino oil then you might and you said you got the oil change done at honda so im assuming its jsut regular oil. Certain oils tend to burn under high stress and heat, buta good synthetic which will last longer between changes, lower oil temps, lower frictional losses, and help make a small amout more power. Most of the ITR guys have used mobil one but said that burns alot and the ones that have not had probs use amsoil or something of that nature. I use penzoil platinum, usually on sale at pep boys and American made can't beat it, and have had no burn off!

Is it safe to add some more oil? It won't be the same brand because I don't know what Honda used, is it bad to mix 2 brands?

How many miles have you driven since the oil was changed?
It's perfectly okay to add more oil, just make sure it's a quality 5W-30.

I'm not exactly sure to be perfectly honest with you.
It started at right around the top dot, and now it's at about half way after a month and a half. I would say maybe 800-1k miles, but dont quote me on that.

I would say that it's normal for a motor of that milage to burn half a quart, to a quart of oil every 3,000 miles are so is normal. Anything more than that could be a red flag of something bad. Just my .002

my 2000 si burned a qt or more a month when i got it at 97k. after a month it would be off the stick. then, at 115k, it spun a rod bearing. now i have a jdm b16a in it, less than 1k on it since the swap but the oil level is staying right where it should, not dropping at all. if you only drop from the top dot to half way on the stick after 1k i would say that is fine for that age motor. just don't let it get low.

It shouldn't use a lot of oil. If the engine is burning it more than like .25 quarts per oil change, it's not exactly regular. My B18C didnt and my, B16A, and F20C dont burn oil. They all have oil squirters..and I road race my S2000. It will consume a little bit under very hard use. Sometimes up to .5 quarts. But that's under REAL hard use. Although, Hondas do consume a bit more oil than usual. High RPMs and oil squirters (in certain engines) cause this.
Even though it's irregular for a car to burn oil, Hondas do it pretty often. No biggie. Could just be your valve seals if it's minor. It costs $200 to change them out for parts and labor around here. Put on your man pants and add oil. Try to get it checked out, though. Do a compression test. If it checks out, it's most likely valve seals.
