Default 0bd1 tranny in obd2 car

I have a 97 civic sedan(obd2) 5-speed. i'm aiming for higher highway mpg so i want to swap in a cx tranny. is the 92-95 obd1 cx tranny any different from the obd2 tranny. does it matter if its obd1 or obd2. would i need any modifications? all help is much appreciated. thanks.
