Well I'm finaly startin today but waiting on some transmission parts still. Here's a pic of the tranny now. The main input shaft bearing was all busted up.

Thanks for letting me know about the pic. I got the pics from FF-Squad now so hopefully Katman doesnt mind. I also added 2 new pics to help some people with visuals.

If you could get me a simple pic of the clutch master cylinder installed that would be great. I never took one, just the inside how its suppose to sit with the MC attached. As well as the gas pedal because i forgot to snap that. The interlock control would be nice but thats 92-95 del sol (from what ive seen), not so much 96-00. Also if you could take a pic of a manual and an auto flywheel bolt next to each other that would be great too. If you can take pics of everything and if you think theres something i missed that you got send me the pic and ill update my page. Thanks!

Well, I finally did my automatic to manual swap because my automatic went out after almost 2yrs and 20,000 miles of being boosted @10psi. I never changed the automatic fluid since I bought the car new in 1999, I’m sure it would’ve definitely helped. I also never added the transmission cooler I bought.
I used and followed these instructions:
I spent $1200 total on parts but most of it was extra and unnecessary and it could be done for a whole lot cheaper (approx $600).
The main cost for me was the ACT HDG6 I got for $306 off eBay (from Grip Force); new stock flywheel was $60.
but the main cost besides the clutch would be depending on what manual transmission you can find. By putting an ad up on a local forum I found two used and broken trannies for cheap (one P2A/A000=92-00 DX/LX/etc. and one P4A/B000= 96-00 EX).
[
Both had busted main Input Shaft Bearings (ISB), so I replaced the ISB and all the seals which cost me $70 from HondaPartsDeals.com. I had never broke open a transmission before but it end up being straight forward and pretty easy (I did the DX one first so I wouldn’t mess up the one I was going to use).
The differences (that I did) from the instructions from H-T/Luserkid’s post were:
• No need to remove the whole engine just the trans.
• The brake pedal “the hardest part†- No need to remove the whole gas/brake assembly. I just removed the brake pedal from the assembly and just swapped that instead (one bolt, one spring, and a pin w/ a cotter pin). A little hard to get to but a lot easier.
• O2 sensor had to be removed from the cat and I used a simulator to trick it and then just tie strapped it up.
• I only used the manual upper tranny bracket and the lower front tranny stabilizer bracket with the three bolts that go in the tranny. All the auto mounts were used (to include the complete rear).
• Also needed that wasn’t mentioned and did not come w/ any of the trannies was the clutch fork, spring, and boot.
• Need the manual starter bolts because they are longer.
• I connected the pink cruise control wire to the black wire right below it (which is probably a ground) and it works.
• IACV 2-wire plug had different colored wires than what was pictured and described so I extended the wires several inches because it was way too short and added connectors so I could swap the wiring if necessary.
• I also did the wind plate differently by gluing some sheet metal to the top and then sprayed some rubberized undercoating on the bottom.
IMO the hardest part was the Intake manifold.
Other than that,
It was pretty straight forward but time consuming. It took me a whole day to remove everything and a whole two days to install everything. But I’m a perfectionist and did not have any prior experience and I only knew what I had read off the H-T post. Also several actions require help so get some beer for your friends.
Now the idle is surging and CEL/MIL calls out IACV and I’ve double checked everything unless it is a bad IACV. Anybody???

Congrats on getting it done
Your IAC problem might be that you flipped your wires (i did this once no big deal) due to different wire colors. Just follow which wire goes where and your set. When you put the intake manifold on you made sure you had all the old gasket off and cleaned the head before you put the new gasket on right?

Re: [FAQ] 96-00 Auto to Manual Swap in full detail!! (SRCivic97)
just a few points i wanted to make
first here is a great diagram of the auto change lever wiring
a few tips for a del Sol conversion
EVERYTHING can be from any EG EXCEPT the shif linkage and the shift boot, those two are del Sol specific
on an EG the hole in the floor can be fixed by simply using the gasket as a template and bolting a plate to the underside of the floor using the existing 4 bolt holes
the torque converter mess can be avoided by simply unbolting it from the "flex plate" and keeping it attached tot he transmission instead of the engine
simply remove the shield on the auto tranny and remove the 8 or so small bolts by rotating the transmission to gain access
i have done a few of these so any questions should be an easy answer
great thread

a really quick question, as i have never attempted this but i'm about to try............. I got a y8 with tranny, harness, and ecu. wiring-wise, I should only have to do the wiring at the old auto shifter, Right?

Correct. 96-00 have there engine harness going from the engine straight to the ecu, so if you run a manual harness its plug and play minus the shifter wiring to get it started. Although i do believe youll need to wire in the reverse lights but im not 100% on that.

Re: [FAQ] 96-00 Auto to Manual Swap in full detail!! (Luserkid)
i been doing at to mt on my eg and thanks to this thread a lot of helpful info. ive even takin tons of pics to start my own thread maybe.

i did the at to mt in my 98 civic ex but i was wondering if anyone knew the part number for a bracket on the bottom that goes into the tranny its on the dirverside by the headers. Also my linkage is hitting the o2 sensor on the cat in 5th and reverse im guessing there is a different cat for mt?
