Throw out bearing making noise
I'm posting this because I need 2nd opinions. Leaving work I noticed I couldn't shift. I checked the whole assembly. No leaks. I then go to the slave cylinder. I noticed there's no pressure being pressed from the fork to the slave cylinders piston rod. The fork is pressed to the right(away from the block.). Which means inside the clutch housing the bearing is very close to the pressure plate or resting on it. So by hand and car running I pressed the fork more to the right to engage the clutch but got a loud whinning noise. Pressing the clutch pedal is very easy til I get to the bottom of the floor when it makes that whinning noise along with a little resistance. Which I'm sure is the tb pressing against the fins on the clutch.
Back to the story. So I have to drive it home with no clutch pedal. When I stopped i had to turn car off. Put in 1st gear. Press gas pedal down. Then start car to go. As for shifting I'd force out of gear at 4k. Then right away force into next gear. I can feel the clutch catch.
Seem like just a tb job or new clutch & flywheel?
my friend 3 hrs away says to drive it there & we'llwork on it. Think that's ok?

Re: Throw out bearing making noise
The bearing can certainly be collapsed, but so could the pressure plate diaphragm. As stated above, you are going to be right there when you pull the transmission... and if time is an issue, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. What if the clutch kit is "good" but a generic brand ??? Will you put it back in or change it to a worthwhile product ??? How soon do you want to do this again ???
