N00B question re: 2010 sport oil filter & oil
I know these questions are the bane of car forums, but I've been reading through the forums and haven't really found what I'm after.
Since the site I normally order parts from doesn't list the 2010 civic (let alone the sport model, which I believe is a Canada model) I just want to confirm the oil filter I should order and oil I should buy.
I assume the oil filter hasn't changed from 2008 to 2010 on the 1.8L engine in my civic (is the engine the same across all the models except si?).
Here's the oil filter I want to order (the 4th one, listed as OEM):
http://parts.autopartsonlinecanada.c...art=Oil+Filter
And I'm thinking Castrol GTX 5w20 oil.
Are these two options a safe bet?

Re: N00B question re: 2010 sport oil filter & oil
The oil filter should be the same for all R18 engines. As far as oil that is a great on going debate. Its a personal choice. I used mobile 1 synthetic and Mobile 1 filter for my first oil change on my Si last week. Any API (not sure if this applies in Canada) certified oil, synthetic or not, will do the job. I just feel my car is worth the extra money even if it gives very little gain over regular oil. For oil weight I would use what your owner's manual recomends.

Re: N00B question re: 2010 sport oil filter & oil
Thanks for the info. I would like to keep on using the same oil and filter that's been used from the factory.. So I'll order the OEM oil filter, and I had assumed it was a dino oil from the factory not synthetic, and the manual specifies 5w20. So I figured the Castrol GTX 5w20 was a good dino oil to go with.
Primarily was just interested in oil filter info.

Re: N00B question re: 2010 sport oil filter & oil
The Si's come with dino oil from the factory so its not a bad thing to use. Sounds like you got it figured out. By the way you have it easy getting to the oil filter on your car. I had to go through the wheel well to get to mine. I think honda has trained gorillas put on their oil filters. Another note: Always put the car on jack stands on a level surface when going under the car. There was a guy recently on an S2000 board that was killed when his car shifted and crushed him. So be smart about how you work and have fun working on your car.
